F. Earl Ingerson, a geologist, worked as a physical chemist and petrologist with the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution from 1935-1947. He was a geologist and chief of the Geochemistry and Petrology Branch, United States Geological Survey from 1948-1958 and completed his career as a professor of geology at the University of Texas at Austin from 1958-1977.
